What is IP Address?

IP: Internet Protocol
IP address is a unique identification number given to each and every machine connected to internet. IP addresses are normally expressed in decimal format as a dotted decimal number eg. 216.17.23.123

The 4 numbers separated by dots in an IP address are called "octets". The name octets comes from the fact that each number is represented by 8-binary digits. So, the IP address is a 32-bit(8+8+8+8) number.
